Green Friday: Turning Black Friday Green

As conscious consumers and caretakers of the future—parents, uncles, aunts, and friends—we face the profound responsibility of safeguarding our planet and protecting our kids from microplastics and toxins. Black Friday is often synonymous with unchecked consumerism, contributing significantly to environmental degradation. At Pure Earth Collection, we see an urgent need for change from businesses and consumer habits alike.

The Problem with Black Friday:

Black Friday has traditionally promoted the purchase of low-cost, short-lived products. This not only encourages wasteful consumer behaviour but also results in products that quickly end up in landfills, polluting our planet with plastics and chemicals as they degrade. Black Friday has become an event marked by a surge in purchases, often of items that are not necessary and don’t last long, fostering a culture of disposability.

The Vision for Green Friday:

Some companies choose to avoid Black Friday altogether. However, if all the sustainable brands opted out of Black Friday, this could unintentionally push consumers towards even less environmentally friendly options, as consumers will be looking for discounts and good deals. That’s why we advocate for transforming Black Friday into Green Friday—a day that celebrates eco-conscious shopping and offers a sustainable alternative:

  • Sustainable Choices: By participating in Green Friday, we provide consumers with attractive, plastic-free choices, reducing the likelihood of purchases that harm the planet.
  • Doubling Our Commitment: During Green Friday, we’re intensifying our Cleaner Oceans Pledge, promising to double our efforts to clean up the oceans with each sale made.
  • Reasonable discounts: We can’t offer huge, 70% discounts like other brands do, because our prices are not artificially inflated in the first place. We choose to keep our margins small and our prices as low as possible to enable as many people as possible to access safe and sustainable products.

How Can You Get Involved in Green Friday?

  • Prioritise Quality and Sustainability: We understand that everyone loves a bargain (we do too!). But Instead of getting swayed by endless Black Friday sales, focus on quality over quantity. Choose well-made items from sustainable brands that you’ll cherish for a long time, rather than impulse buys for cheap products you don’t really need.
  • Support Independent and Eco-Friendly Businesses: This Green Friday, shift your attention to independent shops, artists, and creators who prioritise the environment in their products and practices. Although they may not offer huge discounts, your purchase supports genuine craftsmanship and sustainable business practices.
  • Support Charitable Initiatives: This Green Friday, instead of participating in the rush of sales, consider supporting charitable causes. We support The Cowshed Charity over the Green Friday weekend, donating lots of our products to families in need. Engage with organisations that are making a real difference in the community, contributing directly to a positive impact on our planet and its inhabitants.
